Holy Light
The Holy Fire guides a lost boy on his path.
On Easter, 10-year-old Mircea and his father travel from a small Romanian mountain village to the city to bring back the Holy Fire, which is flown in from thousands of kilometres away every year. On the way back, Mircea loses sight of his father and tries to find his way back alone in the dark, while protecting the flame that must reach the village church before Easter midnight. The latest film by director Marian Crisan, who won the Short Film Palme d’Or the Cannes Film Festival, addresses major questions about faith and religion in a language that is understandable to young audiences, drawing on the outstanding performance of young actor Andrei Voicu.

Biography
Marian Crisan (1976) was born in Salonta, West Romania. He received his bachelor’s degree in film and TV directing at UNATC Bucharest in 1999. He directed short films like “Family Portrait” (2006), “Amateur” (2007), and “Megatron” (2008). “Megatron” won the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. In 2010, his first feature film “Morgen” won the Special Jury Prize at the Locarno Film Festival, Best Director award, at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, Best Director award in Wiesbaden Go East Film Festival, SIGNIS Ecumenical Prize, at the BAFICI, in Buenos Aires, and was also the Romanian entry for the Academy Awards. In 2015, his feature film “Orizont” premiered in the main competition at PÖFF.
