Sad Girlz
What happened to Paula at the party?
La Maestra and Paula are two teenage girls in Mexico. They are the best swimmers in their team and best friends until something happens to Paula at a party. La Maestra sees a shift in her best friend and that saddens her. When the truth comes to light, they find themselves faced with an impossible dilemma: Paula refuses to speak of what happened, whereas La Maestra seeks revenge. Their previously indestructible friendship is tested like never before. The story explores the topic of sexual consent sensitively by avoiding dramatic plot twists to capture the hesitation and confusion in the victim’s mind. The debut feature by director Fernanda Tovar was a huge success at the Berlin International Film Festival, winning both the Best Film and the Grand Prix in the youth category.
Suitable for ages 12 and above.
