Just Film unveiled this year's film programme: featuring 80 film titles and over 100 international guests!
PÖFF’s Youth and Children’s Film Festival Just Film, which is one of the largest events for children and youth in Estonia, has unveiled its film programme for this year. This year, a total of 80 film titles will reach the big screen across various festival programmes, including 49 feature films and 31 short films.
In total, 156 screenings will take place during the festival, 21 of which feature guest appearances. The programme offers world-class film experiences: the lineup includes 4 world premieres and 11 international premieres.
This year’s selection features films for all age groups and tastes: represented are toddler, children’s, youth, documentary, children’s rights, and animated films. In addition, there is a special programme #youngfilmmaker, under which films created by Estonian youth themselves are brought to the cinema screen.
Just Film’s programme director Jan Joonas Pevkur is very delighted with this year’s selection:
"The competition programmes of the 26th Just Film bring us a very colorful lineup, both in terms of topics and countries. When choosing the films, we kept in mind the desire to talk about topical issues such as the radicalization of youth or the new forms that bullying has taken with the development of the digital world, as well as to bring to the screen classic, yet well-executed stories about finding oneself and the worries and joys associated with growing up.
In the children’s film programme, due to an extremely strong animation year, one can find more animated stories that take us from field mice to World War II New York. Among live-action feature films, the programme is enriched, among other things, by fast-paced detective adventures, young film fanatics, and friends the size of a giant shark.
Just Film’s focus has always been on bold films that speak about important topics. This year’s programme continues this important line of stories that are simultaneously educational and eye-opening. Similar to the cinema audience, our programming team is full of young people so that the films stay fresh and in a language that young people themselves understand and speak – therefore, in addition to the international jury, we also have juries composed of young people themselves who also award a prize to their favorite. The trust of filmmakers to come to Tallinn with so many premieres shows that they too appreciate Just Film’s youthful spirit and courage."
As part of the festival, over 100 foreign guests will arrive in Estonia, many of whom can be met at 21 special screenings and asked questions directly after watching the film.
A total of 18 films are competing in the International Children’s and Youth Film Competition Programme this year, including world, international, and Baltic premieres. In addition to the youth jury, the international youth film programme is evaluated by a three-member international jury, which awards a Grand Prix worth 3000 euros.

The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival youth and children’s film festival Just Film takes place this year from November 6 to November 22. Every year, over 50 films are screened at the festival. Today, Just Film has become one of the largest events for children and youth in Estonia, visited every year by nearly 20,000 film enthusiasts. It is possible to explore the film programme starting from October 5, when ticket sales also began. It is also possible to come to Just Film with an entire class or kindergarten group.
